Gentari and EVC (JomCharge) are the first CPOs to receive permits to install public EV chargers in Sabah

EV Connection (EVC), the operator of the JomCharge EV charging network, and Gentari have become the first charging point operators (CPOs) to receive permits to install public EV chargers in Sabah. These permits are issued by the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS), the equivalent of the Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) in Peninsular Malaysia.

ECoS licenses are essential in ensuring that installations are safe and comply with safety standards to protect public use. Prior to the license award ceremony, ECoS held a press conference attended by representatives from the fire department, local authorities, the installation contractor and the CPO.

“Gentari is committed to supporting the green mobility transition across Malaysia. Being the first licensed CPO in Sabah to partner with EVC underscores Gentari’s focus on safety, reliability and customer-centricity in our operations. We are proud to offer the largest network of licensed charging points across Malaysia and are constantly working to add new chargers,” said Haikal Zubir, CEO of Gentari Green Mobility.

“We are honored to be one of the first CPOs, along with Gentari, to receive these licenses from ECoS. Public safety while charging is always of utmost importance to us and we look forward to working closely with ECoS to ensure this,” said EVC CEO Lee Yuen How.

The two CPOs said that as the number of electric vehicles increases in Sabah, they are committed to supporting the state’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, which is essential to support the growth. “This is in line with the sustainable energy agenda as a strategic initiative outlined in the Sabah Energy Master Plan & Roadmap 2040 and also in line with the federal government’s target of achieving 10,000 public chargers by 2025,” the CPOs said.
