Genesis mulls electric convertible with X Convertible Concept
There are very few electric convertibles of any brand or price point, but Genesis suggests that it could join this small group with a new concept car that is launching this week in Malibu California.
Genesis X Convertible Concept shares platform and powertrain with 2021 The concept of Genesis X electric luxury coupe and Genesis X Speedium Coupe Concept fastback debuted earlier this year, but with a 2+2 hard-top convertible body style.

The proportions, with the long hood and dash proportions on the axle reminiscent of traditional internal combustion luxury cars, continue from the previous two concepts, while the four-corner headlamps incorporate contours. of the Genesis’ signature grille in a similar way to the X Speedium Concept coupe. But the convertible gets the aforementioned ducktail treatment and folding roof, which Genesis says incorporates transparent moon-shaped roofs to create a sense of spaciousness even when the roof is closed.
The interior is the cabin of the tweaked X Speedium Coupe Concept, first shown in August. The convertible features the same driver-facing center console, which is positioned offset from the front passenger.
Genesis hasn’t confirmed production plans yet, but with very few electric convertibles planned, a production model based on the X Convertible is sure to stand out.

The Polar Star O2 is one of the very few electric convertibles that has been confirmed to enter production, but it is a smaller two-seat roadster with a sportier purpose.
Mini has hinted that it may be working on an affordable price. Earlier this year, it introduced a one-of-a-kind Mini Cooper SE Convertible, using the electric powertrain from the Cooper SE hatchback, but hasn’t offered any updates since. VW has also hinted that a convertible could be among the body styles being developed for their MEB-based ID line-up, revealing such a vehicle in 2021.
But Britain may offer the closest potential rival for a Genesis luxury convertible EV. Bentley confirmed Its first EV is coming in 2026 after a year delay and five years ago it teased a fully electric conversion concept. That would also give Bentley an alternative to the current Continental GTC in a future all-electric lineup, so at least it seems plausible.
