GameStop surges 30% in premarket ahead of ‘Roaring Kitty’ livestream

GameStop shares jumped more than 30% in premarket trading early Friday, ahead of a YouTube livestream scheduled by “Roaring Kitty,” the man who inspired 2021’s epic debt squeeze.
By 6 a.m. ET, shares were up 30.68% in premarket trading, well above previous highs.
It follows increase Thursday for volatile stocks after the trader announced a livestream – the first in nearly four years.
Roaring Kitty, real name Keith Gill, is a key figure in the famous “meme stock” protest of 2021. Known to him in livestreams and lengthy posts on the now-famous WallStreetBets chat room, Gill is also known as DeepF —— Worth on Reddit.

The livestream will begin at noon ET on Friday, and by 6 a.m. ET, nearly 14,000 YouTube accounts are lined up.
Gill is expected to discuss GameStop shares after disclosure screenshot of his portfolio on Monday night. CNBC could not verify his GameStop holdings and portfolio.
The former Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance marketer was portrayed in the 2023 movie “Dumb Money” and testified in congressional hearings about broker practices and trading gambling retail.
According to LSEG data, GameStop shares are up 166% year-to-date.
