Fujifilm announces XApp smartphone app for X Series cameras and GFX systems


Fujifilm has unveiled a new smartphone app called XApp will handle image transfer, sharing, remote control, firmware updates, etc. XApp replaces Fujifilm’s much-faulted Camera Remote app and users frustrated with the app’s unstable performance It would be hoped that Fujifilm has built a new app from the ground up in which the reliability issues have been completely resolved.

In their press release, Fujifilm seems to address dissatisfied users directly: “XApp features have been significantly enhanced for optimal usability, including many new features. mainly around speed and wireless connectivity.” Elsewhere, the company is even more direct: “XApp’s enhanced system design ensures a faster, smoother connection between the camera and a smartphone and/or tablet than with the Camera Remote App.”

Since XApp requires the camera to have Bluetooth functionality, older models may not be compatible with the new app. However, most of Fujifilm’s most popular models—including popular models for underwater photography such as the X-T5, X-T4, X-T3, GFX100, and GFX100S—will be compatible.

The Fujifilm XApp smartphone app will be available for download on May 25, 2023 for iOS and Android users.

Fujifilm Releases FUJIFILM XApp Smartphone App for GFX System and X Series Digital Cameras

Designed to provide seamless connectivity, Fujifilm’s new XApp introduces several new features to improve the photographer’s workflow.

VALHALLA, NY, May 24, 2023 — FUJIFILM North America Corporation today announced the launch of a Smartphone App “FUJIFILM XApp” (XApp)firstdesigned for use with current Fujifilm X-Series digital cameras and GFX Systems2. The App will be released on May 25, 2023, as a free App download for compatible Apple iOS and Android devices. XApp replaces the previous FUJIFILM Camera Remote app (Camera Remote), an app that connects a Wi-Fi enabled digital camera to a Smartphone (or tablet) to create, transfer, and view photos remotely . XApp features have been significantly enhanced for optimal usability, including many new features that primarily revolve around speed and wireless connectivity.

Main features

Advanced design, speed and image transmission

  • XApp’s enhanced system design ensures a faster, smoother connection between the camera and smartphones and/or tablets than the Camera Remote App.
  • The new “Image Transfer Order” function allows images to be transferred from a compatible Fujifilm digital camera to a smartphone or tablet device even when the camera is turned off and produces different images at the same time This facilitates seamless image posting and sharing on social media and direct messaging apps from XApp.
  • XApp has been updated with a high-contrast design with black and white as the base tones. Text size has been increased from Camera Remote to create a user interface with improved visibility.

Wireless connection for easy photo creation

  • When connected via Bluetooth, XApp allows users to remotely control their existing FUJIFILM GFX System and X Series cameras while checking out the live view on a smartphone or tablet device. Some picture settings including aperture, ISO, and shutter speed can also be configured from a smartphone or tablet device using the XApp.
  • Using XApp’s new “Backup/Restore” function, users of compatible products can save camera settings3 such as “Shooting Menu” and “Setting Menu” in the Application, or restore them back to the applicable FUJIFILM GFX System or X Series camera. Favorite camera settings for different types of subjects can be managed in the XApp, making it quick and easy to change settings even while creating images, and the settings are saved in a compatible GFX System, connected or X Series cameras can be accessed via XApp for immediate recovery as needed. Camera settings can also be shared with multiple cameras of the same model through the App, thus streamlining multi-camera sessions.
  • Date, time, and geo-location information of a compatible Fujifilm digital camera connected to the XApp is automatically synchronized with the camera, keeping the correct time for the in-camera clock and, if applicable allows, to record precise geolocation data about a location as part of the image’s metadata. Recorded geolocation data is automatically displayed on XApp’s timeline map for easy access.

Activity and Timeline Functions4 enable personalized data and file transfers

  • XApp has a new Activity function that automatically aggregates and displays image information, such as the number of images created, and Simulation of Camera/lens/Film used with any given image. anyway, for easy reference.
  • XApp’s Timeline functionality allows users to selectively transfer Activity records5 to a smartphone or tablet device and view important information chronologically, including images, number of images created, image location information, and camera/lens used , thus automatically generating an activity feed that can be modified to suit individual user preferences.

Firmware update notification

XApp makes announcements when new firmware is released for compatible, applicable GFX systems of users or X Series digital cameras. Users simply need to follow the instructions in the message to easily ensure the camera’s firmware is up to date.

The newly introduced FUJIFILM X-S20 mirrorless digital camera is made to be automatically compatible with the new FUJIFILM XApp without additional firmware.
