Frank Warren talks ‘Heart vs Head’ about Usyk-Joshua rematch
Frank Warren reveals WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s motivations behind calling on Derek Chisora to insist that ‘he wants to stay busy’ ahead of a potential further undisputed clash.
Fury’s retirement only lasted four months until he announced via video that he will return to the ring.
Despite announcing his retirement in April, ‘The Gypsy King’ since his last fight with Dillian Whyte, featuring names like UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and strong contender Thor Bjornsson, at the top of the list.
However, the man himself announced on Instagram that now he is pursuing a three part duel with his old nemesis Derek Chisorawith an even more shocking revelation that Fury’s new coach will be British featherweight contender and longtime friend Isaac Lowe.
In an interview with TalkSportWarren gave further insight into Fury’s thinking behind his third fight with Chisora, for which he held two wins.
“First of all, nothing has been done yet. I know they talked since you know, we talked to him, but nothing was signed or done. “
“Why? Because he wanted to fight, and I think about a year or 18 months ago, he came out and he came up with a list of four or five matches that he wanted to have before he retired. , and Derek was on that list.”
“And that’s where he is, as we all know in a few weeks the rematch will be in Saudi Arabia with AJ and Usyk and Tyson just feels that he wants to be busy.”
An undisputed heavyweight clash has been sought for years, with fans set to witness one last year as negotiations between Fury and Joshua were ongoing until Deontay Wilder’s arbitration case ended all talk of an all-British clash.
However, Warren remains optimistic that one day the Fury-Joshua match will come to fruition, whether ‘AJ’ can beat Usyk in the second round:
“I want to see Joshua win because I’d love to see Joshua in the ring with Tyson, but it’s my heart, my head says Usyk will win and he can stop him.”
“In my opinion, Tyson had in mind that he wanted to fight the winner. And he’s going to fight the winner, and then if it’s ‘I’ve done all I can, I’ve unified the titles’ if he wins, then what for he. “
“There is a great fight for him with Joshua. The British public will still be looking for it and buying it, so I think the fighting will always be there. “
