Fran Drescher’s rescue dog helps her thrive despite sexual assault PTSD

Fran Drescher is best known for her iconic role in The Nanny. However, many people do not know that just a few years before becoming a star, Drescher was once the victim of a horrible crime.

In 1985, Drescher’s husband was blindfolded while Drescher and her friend were raped during a brutal home invasion. The trio stood at the mercy of a criminal and his gun.

“I was raped with a gun in my own home by a man I don’t know who was pardoned. I am one of the lucky ones because I lived, and I live to identify him and see him sentenced to 150 years in prison without parole,” Drescher shared at the awards luncheon. annual United Nations Women for Peace.

A four-legged angel is on her way

The events that Drescher survived all these years still haunt her. Despite the passage of time and her success, she still struggles with PTSD that stemmed from that night. With the help of her faithful companion, Angel Grace, Drescher is now thriving.

Angel Grace was adopted from Rockin’ Rescue in Woodland Hills, California in March 2020. Angel is a Husky/German Shepherd cross with one striking blue eye and the other a captivating brown.

Angel (later Snowy) was hit by a car. She broke her leg and injured her shoulder. The extent of her injuries put her at risk of death, but, like her current mother, Angel was determined to survive.

Drescher said to Pet Lifestyles Magazine that she recently lost her beloved child, Samson, and her heart is not strong enough to move on. Finding it difficult to get out of bed during her grief, Drescher had a spark in her that told her to check out petfinder.com. It was there that she laid eyes on Angel and knew that Samson was allowing her to go on.

Love from the first kiss

Within seconds of meeting, Angel knocked Drescher to the ground and kissed her! That was all the confirmation she needed to know that Angel was coming home to her. A few days later, California was closed due to the pandemic. It was during that time that the couple bonded stronger than ever. Now they are inseparable!

“I am a survivor who has managed to get on with my life despite the veil of PTSD I have learned to live with,” she says, “and I am rarely alone without… my dog. its service”.

Angel Grace fits her name perfectly. She has warm eyes that draw you in and an adventurous spirit that puts you at ease. Wherever Drescher went, Angel was always with her.

“I am often surprised by how much more comfortable I feel walking down the street, commuting through the airport or into a hotel room because I am with my friends, travel companions and guardians.”

Drescher considers himself lucky. Lucky for survival, lucky to have identified her attacker, lucky for her recovery journey, and lucky to have found her Guardian Angel.
