Tencent Games, the world’s largest game company, has added a new name to its roster: Shawn Layden. Former President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Layden joined Tencent Games as a “Strategic Advisor”. Changes made available through an update on Layden’s LinkedIn page.

Shawn Layden has worked at Sony as part of the PlayStation division since 1996. He was originally hired as an International Software Development Producer, based in Tokyo. In 1999, he became Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. In 2007, he became the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, continuing until 2010. He assumed the role of CEO of Sony Network Entertainment International and was one of the founding members of the company. In 2014, he succeeded Jack Tretton as President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, becoming the face of PlayStation until 2018. That year, he transitioned to CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios. In 2019, he stepped down as CEO and left Sony altogether, citing “burnout” as a motivating factor. He has since taken on the role of Strategy Advisor for Streamline Media Group, in addition to a similarly titled role at Tencent Games.
