Ford recalls 200,000 vehicles because brake lights won’t turn off
Ford and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a new recall for nearly 200,000 vehicles because brake light may not turn off. Drivers of affected vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions will also be able to pull their vehicles out of the Parking Lot even while they are applying the brakes. That increases the risk of an emergency and possibly an accident.
Based on Document posted on NHTSA’s recall center, a detached brake pedal bumper was the cause of the problem. The recall applies to “some years 2014-2015”. Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and 2015 Mustang vehicle sold or originally registered, in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Hawaii. The “safety regulator adds that” exposure to certain environmental conditions, such as high temperatures, high humidity and salt air can cause brake pedal bumpers to disintegrate and separate from the brake pedal. “
Owners of affected vehicles should expect notice of the recall in early March. They will be directed to agency that they elect for a free replacement of the brake pedal and clutch pedal bumpers.
