Ford Mustang Mach-E change, Volvo battery factory, Airstream electric details: Car News Today

Volvo plans to produce enough batteries on-site for its home power plant. Airstream reveals more about how it sees electric travel trailers — and boost mpg and range. And Ford intends to proceed more closely after Tesla in terms of improvements to its electric vehicles. This and more, here at Green Car Report.

Ford CEO Jim Farley said last week that the company is planning to to “improve” its Mustang Mach-E incrementally. As Farley argued in a financial call last week, Ford could then reclaim that knowledge for its other electric vehicles sooner.

Airstream has revealed more about its eStream electric travel trailer concept that can increase EV or mpg range for trailers, add traction and stability, and even park yourself in a camping space or charge the battery. Built on technology co-developed with ZF, eStream is a concept now, but it could upgrade the entire RV experience within a few years.

And Volvo and Swedish battery company Northvolt on Friday announced plans for a battery plant near Volvo’s headquarters and flagship plant, aimed at manufacturing enough umbrellas for up to 500,000 EVs annually. The venture brought a former Tesla executive to Giga Berlin to lead the effort.
