Remember when Tesla proudly introduced a set of computer games that you could play in its cars? And remember when NHTSA has issued a warning that this can be distracting for the driver? Well, it looks like Ford may be following Tesla’s lead and putting games in its new electric truck – but you’ll only be able to play them while parked.
Last August, electric car maker Tesla announced it was rolling out a new Arcade feature in its cars. The company is proud to announce that users will be able to play games like Sonic The Hedgehog and Cuphead on the giant screen in the front of the company’s car.
But the implementation was broken by a report from the New York Times that cited a Tesla Model 3 owner who finds that they can play game while driving.
This, of course, is not a safe thing to do. OneAs a result, NHTSA soon stepped in and ordered Elon Musk and Tesla release software update to disable the ability to play games while driving.
Apparently it’s the right thing to do, when the flickering screen is playing Sudoku or any other classic video game in your eyes is not something you want to pay attention to while driving.
So now, yours Tesla It just turns into the world’s biggest game console when you park it.
But going forward, Tesla won’t be the only automaker to offer computer games on its cars, as the feature seems to have caught Ford’s interest.
The blue oval is preparing to launch all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck. And, ahead of its release, Darren Palmer, vice president of global EV programs at Fordhas revealed a glimpse of what will be in the new truck’s infotainment system.
In a post on LETSinkedIn, Palmer shared a video of someone playing a simple driving game on their truck’s infotainment system. The game is controlled by the car’s volume wheel and the player controls the car through the traffic to collect coins.
In the post, Palmer said: “Some cute little games now on F150 Lightning. Proved a hit with my kids in the final test…”
While Tesla initially did not have a process in place to ensure people don’t play games while driving, a Ford spokesperson confirmed to Jalopnik that “games only work while the vehicle is parked.”
No more information on what games will be available, but we don’t have too much time to wait because Electric F-150 to debut on April 26.
