Fonter Park Barn is under quarantine as a precaution

“However, we are being extremely cautious,” he wrote. “The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has been notified and a 21-day quarantine has been placed on stable R, which affects approximately 100 horses.

“We do not allow any horsemen with horses in the R stable to come into contact with any other horses in the stable. Any incoming horse must not leave the entire stable until the quarantine yard is in place. removed. We’ve also begun a routine cleaning of the paddock, starting gates and other common areas for horses.”

Currently, no entries have been obtained from horses kept in the R barn.

The Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma tweeted on Friday that no carriage horses from Fonner Park will be allowed at Will Rogers Downs until further notice.

EHV-1 is a common strain of equine herpesvirus and has been detected elsewhere in the US this year. Some horses with EHV-1 may experience loss of coordination, hind limb weakness, and coma, while others are asymptomatic carriers.
