At the time, it all made sense. Floyd Mayweather, despite being forty years old and retired, is still considered the most dominant athlete in boxing. No one, not even his old nemesis Canelo Alvarez, has positioned himself on the throne that Mayweather has vacated. On the other hand, Conor McGregor is the face of the UFC. Both men were dashing, flashy, and talented. While it doesn’t seem like he has much of a chance of beating Mayweather in the boxing ring, it makes perfect sense for McGregor to hit it (or rather, dollars and cents). The hugely hyped Mayweather-McGregor fight, which took place in the summer of 2017, ended rather predictably, with Mayweather stopping the Irish superstar in the tenth round of one of the most lucrative bouts in history. history.
Now Mayweather – and not for the first time – is talking about going up against McGregor again. “I want to go out there this weekend and have some fun, then I have another show in Dubai in November and me and Conor McGregor in 2023.” Sportsmail Mayweather report as said. “We didn’t know if it was going to be an exhibition or a real fight. While it’s true that Mayweather has cast some shade in the UFC way, it’s also true that it’s not 2017 anymore. Both are rich and extremely famous, but neither Mayweather nor McGregor are near his prime. Mayweather is set for an exhibition bout with Japanese MMA star Mikura Asakora this weekend. Then it was said he was going to be in another exhibit – this time with a YouTube influencer. Neither opponent is considered a top-level boxer, because neither is. However, they are helping Mayweather get his bank account. That’s good for them – and for Mayweather as well. Yet another Mayweather-McGregor fight is clearly not going to make millions as the original fight did.
However, there is no doubt that Mayweather-McGregor 2 will be a lucrative endeavor. It won’t be a serious problem, but it will still be lucrative. With Mayweather understandably retiring from high-level boxing and McGregor not being as much of a UFC force as he might be understood, perhaps a rematch between these two actually makes a bit of sense – like like the first game.
