Fixtures, dates, format, teams, rules, matchups, expert selection, odds of the 2022 Presidents Cup

The 2022 Presidents Cup is finally upon us after three long years of anticipation. A heavily favored US team looks set to hold onto the trophy after a dramatic 16-14 win at Royal Melbourne in 2019, while a rising international team will rock the golf world.

In the time since the last event occurred, America has retooled its arsenal and introduced young stars such as Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns, Collin Morikawa, Cameron Young and Max Homa. They will be competing against familiar faces like Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Tony Finau as all 12 Americans made the OWGR top 25.

While the Americans added more firepower, the international team lost some of its strength. In place of losses, Sungjae Im, Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott will lead their team into the Quail Hollow Club and hope to almost win the first international Presidents Cup since 1998 and also the second. two all time.

With eight rookies, the international team is a big underdog in Charlotte. While nothing out of the ordinary, this year’s Presidents Cup offers a refreshing sensation as it finally feels as if America’s opponents are poised to dethrone the 11-time champion. With outside forces in hand, it’s completely possible to be unilateral.

Schedule and format of President’s Cup 2022

All Eastern Ages

Thursday: Foursomes – 1-6 pm
Friday: Fourball – 11:30 am – 6 pm
Saturday: Foursomes and Fourball – 7am - 6pm
Sunday: Single – 12-6 pm

Fourballs: Teams of the two go head-to-head and each opponent plays their own golf ball. Each side will take the lower of the two points for that particular hole. Example: If Jordan Spieth played birdies while teammate Justin Thomas played cards and both Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama played equal, the US team would win the loss.

Four years: Harder of the two team formats. Teammates will play a single golf ball and alternate strokes until the hole is completed. The player turns off tee shots regardless of who took the last shot on the previous hole. Typically, the better irons will line up to tee off on most par 3s while the stronger players will start at par 5. Scoring remains the same and is the standard game play.

Single: Matches 1-1 over 18 holes. What to Watch at America’s Amateur or WGC Match.

The 2022 Presidents Cup Course

The Hollow Quail Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been a fixture on the PGA Tour, hosting the annual Wells Fargo Championship. Redesigned by Tom Fazio in 2016 in preparation for the PGA Championship, it measures 7,576 yards and plays at 71. Known for his shot on holes 16-18, “The Green Mile” has been posted on the scoreboard and will play against 13-15 to ensure opponents see them in match mode.

President’s Cup History

With the victory at Royal Melbourne in 2019, the US set a record 11-1-1 in the Presidents Cup. Despite the disparity in total wins, there have been a few recent calls in recent memory, including a 16-14 match in 2019 and a 15.5-14.5 match in Korea in 2015. The international team has struggled very hard on American soil, and hasn’t won two points since the second President’s Cup in 1996.

2022 Presidents Cup odds, favorite

Odds bets are plentiful for the Presidential Cup, and Caesars Sportsbook has provided a few to enjoy. These are my three favorites.

1. Top scorer – Sungjae Im (18-1): He is the best player of the international team and will have to play all five sessions if given the opportunity. I like his fit with Quail Hollow, and could see him paired with Tom Kim would make for a formidable Korean duo.

2. Winner Day 1 – Draw (April 25): If internationals come close in any session, it must be the first. Unexpectedly, the visitors will be able to freely roam around Quail Hollow and unleash their strongest squad. Staying longer than 6-1, I wouldn’t mind suggesting it keep serve on Thursday.

3. Winner Day 2 – USA (September 4): The 2/15 price tag for the US to win the President’s Cup is steep, so aim them on a priority team format instead. America has made a lot of money with four balls over the years, and this time period is probably no different with a significant advantage in skill and continuity.

Pairs to watch

Check out the day 1 pairs for the quartet.

Not Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth: While they may be best friends, they also cannibalize each other’s skill sets. Their partnership has been one of the weak points in the United States’ victory at the 2021 Ryder Cup, and it may be time to separate these two most experienced members of this team.

Hideki Matsuyama vs Justin Thomas in singles: They both beat it in the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, and I’d love to see them run it again. It can easily turn into an impressive exhibit to remember.

Cameron Young and Collin Morikawa: Dustin Johnson won 5-0-0 at the 2021 Ryder Cup thanks in part to his partnership with Morikawa. Young enough, long enough off the tee and well-versed on the pitch, could seem to fill the void left by Johnson. This could be the beginning of a very long and successful marriage for two 25-year-olds.

Prediction of the President’s Cup in 2022

It’s hard to imagine the United States not winning this President’s Cup, but I think it won’t be as easy as most predict. After stumbling on Thursday, the Americans figured things out over the weekend and won by 17.5-12.5.
