Hi everyone, I’m Phil Crifo, game director of Tchia and co-founder of Awaceb. We’re excited that Tchia is launching to the world tomorrow, and it’s the culmination of an incredible 5 year adventure for a small team that makes a big game.
As we near release, we wanted to give you a final look at how we’re expanding the sandboxed open world recipe. If you’re new to Tchia, surely the overview below will help you get up to speed before jumping into the game on PS4 and PS5.
To help prepare you for the adventure ahead, we also wanted to give you some early game tips. And here are some of the top five items & features you’ll use during the game’s opening hours
slingshot
Tchia’s trusty slingshot was given to her by her father, Joxu. This is the first tool you will get in the game and it will be very useful to aim at trees and knock down coconuts or bananas to consume and restore your energy. It’s also a useful weapon to use against the Maano – the cloth creatures that kidnapped Tchia’s father – to buy time while you’re trying to find flammable objects to get rid of them once and for all. .
You can also test your aiming skills in shooting challenges, when you get the highest score you will receive a gold trophy. Those will prove very useful for other activities.
The slingshot also takes advantage of some of the PS5’s unique features, such as an adaptive trigger, where you’ll feel the weight of the strap on your fingertips. And if you want to become an expert marksman, you can activate the motion sensor for more precise aiming. Give it a try, you can turn it on or off in the menu.
ukulele
One of the most unique features of Tchia is the Ukulele. You can harness the power of this magical instrument with just a few plucks. It is fully playable, customizable, and also a game changer.
Given to Tchia by Joxu’s best friend Bamboo, the ukulele can be used for many different purposes. Through unlockable magical melodies known as Soul Melodies, Tchia can influence the world around her, causing new items or animals to appear to give her an advantage. in exploration and combat. The ukulele also comes into play at some touching storytelling moments in the game, where you can play along to pre-written songs.
While resting at camp, you can also style your ukulele to suit you, with plenty of options to customize it to your own personal taste.
For those who want a little more freedom, Tchia’s ukulele is completely playable and you can experiment with the full scale. Whether you want to play chords or a string, bend notes, strum or tune your way to musical excellence – you have the choice to play whatever you want! We’re excited to see what you do with this feature.
soul dance
From the early days of developing Tchia, we always intended to make a game like a toy box. We designed Soul-jumping with that in mind. Soul jumping is one of Tchia’s inherent powers, and you’ll use this power to control almost any item or animal you can find in the archipelago.

Here are some new animals you may not have seen yet that you can use to your advantage.
gulls
Overall, birds offer one of the strongest move advantages in the game. This is also why they will eat your soul quickly! Use their super-accessible controls to fly over the cliffs and reach the finish line in a flash. And if you’re cheeky, you can use “R2” to surprise unsuspecting residents. Cows also allow you to do the same, but be careful, as their poop is a bit unstable from using Soul Jump and they have a tendency to… explode!
dolphin
Out of all the sea creatures you can own in Tchia, dolphins are probably your fastest pick… They can dash across the ocean if you sprint, and you can even perform amazing stunts. Exciting acrobatics and other stunts while jumping out of the water. Fish is the best way to get around underwater and won’t use the stamina you consume to hold your breath, giving you time to quickly search around for valuable chests and pearls.
Dog (or Wild Boar!)
Most land animals have the ability to dig, which can be very valuable when looking for jewelry or other potential surprises. They are also much faster than walking Tchia if you need to cover a large area faster. Although cats can’t dig, they have another special ability that we’ll let you discover for yourself! We are very proud of the sound effects we have prepared when you activate their abilities 😉
crab
Crabs are slow and don’t cover as much soil as other animals, but they sure are good at it! Use their powerful pincers to crack the chests and get them more easily!
Jewelry & Pearls
Jewelery and pearls are collectibles that you can find all over the archipelago and play an important part in high-end dress – a Caledonian ritual performed as a gesture of appreciation and respect. respect someone. Whenever you need to make offerings, or buy more cosmetics, jewelry and pearls are almost always involved.
You will find a lot of them throughout your journey and you can locate them by activating the scream points, which will reveal more activities and collectibles around you .
Once you’ve collected enough of them, make your way to the nearest town or pier and see what types of costumes or boat customization items you can unlock by spending them.
Camera
As you travel through the archipelago, you will meet many inhabitants who will help you on your journey. This is the case of Louise, a young girl from Weliwele village, who will give you a camera and ask you to take lots of pictures.
Tchia always finds joy in the little things and the camera system is no exception. It was made to simulate the super rewarding filming process. Choose your lens, roll your film and even set up a tripod with self-timer to capture a great pose. When you’re filming, you’ll have to find a place where you can develop your photos and enjoy the surprise of discovering what a great photographer you are.

All activities and challenges have been set up so performance is always optional and you don’t need skills to progress in the story. If you get stuck, you’ll always have the ability to skip a game segment so you can easily discover what’s next. Plus, if you really want to, you can start your journey at any point in the story via the chapter selection menu, available at the start of your adventure.
Tchia is a lively and colorful game inspired by New Caledonian culture. It’s a poetic coming-of-age story, but it also includes scenes not suitable for children. Therefore, if you want to play with your little one, we recommend that you activate “family mode”, which will automatically make some of the more graphic or violent scenes in the game suitable for whole family.
