US Forest Service warning that abandoned mine sites are extremely dangerous and should be avoided. “Falling off a shaft is as deadly as falling from a tall building. Falling onto the shaft for a short distance can cause serious injury or even death. The entire area near a hole is often unstable and can become stuck to the shaft at any time.”

Fortunately, no one was harmed in the rescue.
