Firefighters rescue dog trapped in sunken car for 20 minutes
Thanks to an incredible team of volunteer firefighters, a small dog survived in a flooded vehicle. After a car fell into the water, in what appeared to be a collision, the driver got out safely, but their furry friend was still trapped inside.
Fortunately, the puppy found an airbag to hide in, which helped it survive longer than expected. Firefighters arrived in time to save the little dog’s life. These heroes deserve a lot of credit for their selfless hard work.
Moaning in the water
The Crawford Town Volunteer Fire Department in North Carolina received a call about a convertible sports car that had an accident and was submerged in water. Firefighters responded to a call around 1 a.m., and they saw the vehicle overturned in a nearby canal.
The driver tried to get out of the vehicle before firefighters arrived, but their dog was missing. As firefighters checked the flooded vehicle, they heard sobs coming from inside. Somehow, the dog got under the floorboards to find the airbag in the sinking car. The dog survived 20 minutes in that small airbag of the car.
“Great teamwork with our volunteers and support from Lantz Towing. We immediately overturned the vehicle to gain access. Although the vehicle was upside down in the water for 20 minutes, we managed to get the dog under the dashboard where the airbag was located,” the fire brigade wrote on Facebook.
Somehow, the dog escaped the accident without being seriously injured. The driver’s condition is unclear, but they are currently in a detention center.
Lots of unanswered questions
The firefighters did an incredible job rescuing the dog and retrieving the vehicle. However, not much is known about the events leading up to the crash. They don’t know who caused the accident and how the car ended up in the water.
“The dog was rescued with no obvious injuries. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and the driver has been taken to custody,” the fire department wrote.
