FFVII and FFXII Dungeons inspired by locations inspired by heaven

The dungeons that people encounter in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin can call FFVII and FFXII places to note. Square Enix’s Director Daisuke Inoue revealed that the locations of previous games influenced which games appeared in rotation. In particular, he cited how Stranger of ParadiseSunken Shrine and Cavern of Earth take inspiration from previous games.

First, Inoue suggested that a dungeon from FFVII was eventually used to inspire the look and feel of the Sunken Shrine location. (This could be a reference to the Gelnika or Junon Underwater Reactors.) Here’s what he had to say about it.

Take for example Sunken Shrine. This location is underwater and the motif used is a dungeon from the original Final Fantasy VII it’s in the sea.

When we consider all the elements we need to design it, we think about switching to the previous word document or even considering how Final Fantasy VII Remake explained the original game in its level design.

However, given that Final Fantasy VII Remake is a dedicated remake, as opposed to an environment, it is natural that it is made with an amazing amount of detail. The developer team apologized and said that it would not be possible to create it in the same style (laughs).

Instead of focusing on describing areas with the same level of fidelity Final Fantasy VII Remake We decided to make sure that the design level in Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin very entertaining in its own right and created our own interpretation of the dungeon as best we could.
I believe we have created an interesting dungeon, with a lot of difference in height, and where the floor design makes you think: “…is this the place?”

For FFXII In regards to dungeons, Inoue seems to be referring to Raithwall’s Tomb and its Demon Wall when talking about the location of the Cavern of Earth.

In the original Final Fantasy, The Fiend of Earth awaits in the depths of the Cavern of Earth. In keeping with that feeling in our game, I think the dungeon should use a motif specific to the undead and have a really “earth-like” atmosphere.

The idea of a crawling site with the undead led to the concept of it being a place where the dead sleep, so we decided to take inspiration from the mausoleum in Final Fantasy XII.

The original area in Final Fantasy XII has a pretty impressive boss – even by Final Fantasy standard! – who gets in the way of players, and we wanted to bring this concept into our dungeons. However, it would incur a lot of overhead if we wanted to make it the boss, so we ended up working on the idea of entering the dungeon as a mechanic.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via the Epic Games Store on March 18, 2022. Those who pre-order the digital copy will get early access on March 15, 2022. .
