Fans will have the first of six betting opportunities on the 149th game of the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) from November 1-3. Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable’s Breeders ‘Futurity (G1) Forte favorites were betting 15-1, while the pari-mutuel field of “All other colors and geldings” was not listed in the 38 individual betting preferences that were ranked in the 3-5 heavy picks list.
The new three-day pool, featuring $2 win and correct bets, will open at noon on Tuesday (Eastern time) and close on Thursday at 6 p.m. before the Future Stars Championship of Breeders ‘World Championships’ Friday, November 4.
New for 2022, Kentucky Derby Futures Betting can feature up to 40 betting preferences. Pool 1 will have 38 individual horses, interest on bets on “All Horses Filled From 2020 Foal Crop” and “All Other Popular Colors and Gelding From Foal Crop 2020”.
Coached by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, Forte has won three of his four starts and is a two-time Level 1 winner, with his other score being Hopeful (G1) at Saratoga. Forte is expected to compete in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) on Friday at Keeneland.

There are six sets of Futures bets scheduled prior to the 2023 Kentucky Derby: November 1-3 (Group 1); November 24-27 (Group 2); January 20-22 (Group 3); February 10-12 (Group 4); March 10-12 (Group 5); and March 30 to April 1 (Class 6). Kentucky Derby Sire Futures, launched in 2015 and requiring bettors to place bets on the winning male for next year’s Kentucky Derby winner, will be held concurrently with Group 2 on November 24-27. The single Kentucky Oaks Futures bet will coincide with the Kentucky Derby Group 5 Futures Betting on March 10-12.
A record total of $2,060.691 has been placed on futures bets for the 2022 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks.
There are no cashbacks in Kentucky Derby Futures Betting. Should Churchill Downs officials determine during this week’s four-day combo that one of the betting interests has experienced injury, illness or other circumstances that could have prevented the horse from participating in the race. Kentucky Derby or Oaks or not, bets on individual horses will be suspended immediately.
