Falling Western democracies must accept climate advice – Can you accept that?

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Based on Professor Emeritus David Shearman, some issues are beyond the comprehension of elected politicians, and should not be left to their authority. The only way to prevent the disintegration of Western democracy is for politicians to hand over power to peer-appointed independent scientists.

The climate emergency cannot be solved by dissolving democracies

President BidenThe climate agenda has been launched with hopes, prayers and expectations in the leadership of all the world’s democracies, like a glorious ship on its maiden voyage. : SS Biden. There is deep concern that in stormy seas it has been pushed against the rocks, still intact but needing high tides to release it.

Clearly, President Biden strongly believes in reducing domestic emissions with a series of measures in the Build Back Better initiative, built on the foundation of a Democratic congressman who showed acceptance of climate change and opposed constraints on fossil fuel production. The President must now resort to executive orders and a host of other measures, not required by law.

This brings us to the crux of the matter. Our Western democracies can no longer provide consensus and act on issues that threaten the continued existence of humanity., not least the strongest democracy in the world.

In the US, 109 members of the House of Representatives and 30 senators refuse to acknowledge the scientific evidence about human-caused climate change. These members received more than 61 million dollars in lifetime contributions from the oil, gas and coal industries.

The United States is not alone in the disintegration of democracy. Climate denial and anti-vaccination sentiment exists in many countries but not as debilitating as they did in the United States.

Over the past four decades, failures of liberal democracies address environmental issues and especially climate change is becoming more and more obvious. In 2007, these failures were detailed and today we see them still unedited. Indeed, a failure has become the dominant issue, the need to separate governance from corporate capitalism.

The common denominator of today’s democratic failure is the government is not willing to accept that many of the problems that we are facing are very complicated and urgent beyond the understanding and ability of elected officials. The climate emergency is compounded by two complementary interrelated problems: Elected officials put their political survival before collective needs, and many delay the fuel industry mighty fossils for personal gain.

To be relevant today, Elected governments must be prepared to accept advice and guidance from independent committees of scientists and other relevant professionals selected by their peers. – and not by political appointment. The details of this manual should be made available to all parties and the public. A starting model for the United States and many other countries that can be strengthened US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with appointees chosen by peers and not politically appointed.

David Shearman (AM, Ph.D., FRACP, FRCPE) is professor of medicine at the University of Adelaide, South Australia and a co-founder of Australian Environmental Doctor. He is the co-author of “The Climate Change Challenge and the Failure of Democracy” (2007) commissioned by the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy.

If you want to see Expert Mode or Technology It seems that, a place where an important part of day-to-day decision-making is really dominated by groups of allegedly appointed experts, look at Communist China.

The following academic dream of a wonderful life in China for the educated was published a few years ago in an engineering journal.

The Chinese government is dominated by scientists and engineers Its political class is largely technocrat.

By Patricia Eldridge 3 years ago

When you think of the Chinese government, what do you usually think of?

Most of you would say the Great Wall, feng shui, their food, pandas, cheap products, communism, and martial arts, among other things. All of these are valid observations, as China is really famous for it. But I want to add something to that list, something rare that China has to remember about it: most of the political leaders in China are scientists and engineers.

To demonstrate that fact, let’s play a quick game. Name a scientist or an engineer from your country’s top government officials. Don’t lie to Google, just think of someone you already know.

Now I suspect that you have thought of a thing especially if you are in the United States

Nowhere in the world can you find public admiration and respect for their scientists and engineers other than China. This is a little known fact. They admire such professionals so much that they consider them worthy and capable of handling political affairs.

The Chinese believe that highly disciplined scientists and engineers, who eventually become technologists, are well-suited to public offices.

In my opinion, this seductive power offer is the real traction China has over Western academia. It’s not just the shadowy subsidies that the Chinese Communists provide our elites, it is the promise of a future in which Western scholars have a greater say in government policy; promises that if Western governments become more like China’s Technological Communism, academia will play a much larger role in civilian government.

Those tempted by China’s alluring offer somehow overlooked the fact that the power offer was conditional on complete submission to the central government. China does not hesitate to punish expert doctors who try to warn the world about Covid. Local CCP leaders were annoyed when doctors tried to explain because they didn’t want anyone to know they had a problem.

To be fair, Professor Shearman does not refer to China directly, and in passing through his article, he is not a fan of China’s greenhouse gas emissions and coal dependence. But in my opinion, a real Chinese-style Technology is what Professor Shearman is describing, whether or not you are conscious enough to realize what you are saying.

Professor Shearman did not explain what he wanted to happen, when ordinary people rebelled against and refused to follow the instructions of the “expert”, like Massive protests are going on against vaccine missions, or Yellow vest riot against carbon fuel tax increase in France. I would guess that Professor Shearman would want the views of his group of equally appointed experts to prevail over the short-sighted desires of the illiterate masses.

We have seen what happens in China when ordinary people oppose government directives or ordinary people in China demand a greater voice over government policy.

Honestly, I don’t want to live in such a system. We have all seen the bullying, pettiness, and heartless cruelty of Western academic elites, such as the mistreatment of Peter Ridd, and countless other cases.

Imagine if these people had a bigger say in your life? Imagine if the vicious internal politics of academia spilled out of universities and wreaked havoc on society as a whole? Imagine if these people were put in perpetual charge of key government levers like the EPA. Imagine if elected politicians were deprived of the right to remove them? Imagine being told that the next US government was stripped of its power to remove people like Dr. Fauci from office?

Because life in Communist China is like that. That is exactly what Professor Shearman is calling for.

Thanks but no thanks, Professor Shearman.
