Ex-Tesla engineers created self-promoting EV camp trailer

If you’re looking for a dandy camper to tow the back of your giant truck, you’ve got plenty of good options to choose from today. Have Airstream’s classic styling or the modern minimalism of the Bowlus . trailer to try and choose between. Or, you could opt for something more modern looking like this: Lightship L1.

In case you lost it:

This futuristic camping trailer has been designed by a duo of ex-Tesla engineers and features some creative party tricks. As you might expect from a pair of electric vehicle experts, the trailer features a massive 80 kWh battery pack. But unlike most trailers that use batteries to power things like refrigerators and lights, this power supply is used to power the electric motor that turns the camper’s wheels.

Why would you want a camper who can push himself around, I hear you ask. Good, according to Hai Dang all of which are intended to assist in maintaining the range and efficiency of the vehicle towing the trailer. According to Lightship, thanks to the onboard engines, “the 300-mile electric vehicle (EV) used to tow it is still an EV with a 300-mile range and a gasoline truck.” 25 mpg is still a 25 mpg petrol truck.”

What’s more, this RV has even more electric tricks up its sleeve. Engineers also roof installation with 3 kW solar energywhich the company says can meet the needs of occupants for a “off-grid week without charging.”

It’s a pretty impressive sounding machine, and even more appealing when you hear about its living quarters, this is, after all, the most important thing for any camping trailer.

Firstly, there are pop-ups. All campers have been designed to fold in on themselves to reduce drag while driving. This means that when you stop to set up camp, you have to raise the roof to form a 10-foot-tall RV.

Inside all that space, you’ll find an “ecosystem of all-electric appliances,” which can include electric refrigerators, ovens, and stoves. There is also a small bathroom that includes a shower, toilet and sink.

In the living space, Lightship will equip the trailer with a “flexible seating space” that can be used as a seating area and can double as a bed. That seating area is also surrounded by panoramic windowto give you the best view of wherever you have chosen to spend the night.

On the trailer you’ll also find loads of cupboards and storage space for all your travel essentials and a large workbench for all your food preparation needs. I have to say, it all looks very neat.

In total, the Lightship L1 measures 27 feet long, 8 feet 6 inches wide and 6 feet 9 inches tall, in folded down, on-road mode. It weighs 7,500 lbs at full load, and Lightship says it has room for four to six passengers, “depending on configuration.”

For now, this is just a concept we can all enjoy, but Lightship is taking pre-orders for the L1 ahead of its launch. You can put your name on the waitlist with a $500 deposit, and the final price of the travel trailer will start at $125,000. Production of the Lightship L1 is expected to begin in late 2024.
