Everything a beginner photographer needs to know about lenses
Lenses are perhaps the most important piece of equipment any photographer carries, having a huge impact on the technical quality and creativity of your images. Most entry-level cameras come with kit lenses, but in general, these lenses have serious limitations, including poor image quality, slow focusing speeds, and narrow maximum apertures. Get an affordable, wide aperture 50mm . lens (commonly referred to as “nifty 50”) will teach you quite a bit by allowing you to experiment with wide apertures and narrow depth of field respectively, work in low light, learn the pros and disadvantages of prime lenses, etc. Once you get a feel for that lens, you’ll have a much better sense of what you’re looking for before you start making a serious investment in glass.
