Everton fans awarded penalty kick in friendly against Dynamo for helping Ukrainian refugees


An Everton fan who went to the Ukraine border to help refugees fleeing after Russia’s invasion of the country was invited on to the pitch to kick a penalty in the pre-season game against Dynamo Kyiv. .

The Goodison Park team and audience gave a warm welcome to Paul Stratton, who added an unofficial fourth goal to the hosts’ 3-0 win over the Ukrainian side by converting a penalty.

Stratton in March and traveled to the Polish city of Przemysl – near the border with Ukraine – with his brother to help refugees who had managed to flee the invasion, which Russia called “an operation military”.

Since February 24, one-third of Ukrainians have been forced out of their homes, the largest current displacement crisis in the world, according to the United Nations refugee agency.

Everton take on Chelsea on 6 August in the first match of the 2022-2023 tournament after avoiding relegation last season in 16th place.
