EV startup Aehra plans to emphasize efficiency, battery repairability

There’s no shortage of EV startups looking to challenge established automakers, but Milan-based Aehra is taking a different approach.

Aehra unveiled its first model, an SUV, last October, is scheduled to launch a sedan in June, and aims to start delivering both models in 2025 in Potential markets include North America, Europe, China and the Middle East. The startup recently announced that the battery packs will be powered by Austria-based Miba Battery Systems, with a focus on efficiency and long lifespans.

The two companies will collaborate on custom battery hardware, which Aehra says will allow for more flexibility than pre-made components. That will enable the creation of a tailored solution for Aehra’s vehicle architecture, allowing engineers to maximize range, efficiency and weight savings.

Aehra also aims for maximum “sustainability and battery repairability” to give both their vehicles and their battery packs a long useful life. These factors, along with overall efficiency, are more important to a startup than performance.

Franco Cimatti, Aehra’s technical director, said in a statement: “We don’t want to build cars with 1-megawatt or 2-megawatt powertrains. their friends, within seconds the battery’s stored energy is halved, which offers little value to customers when driving in the real world.”

While the Aehra EV will have “excellent dynamic performance”, the startup is avoiding anything that requires an oversized battery pack, “which only leads to increased cost, weight, inefficiencies and complexity.” mixed,” Cimatti said.

Aehra is targeting a 497-mile range (which can be measured against the European WLTP test cycle) from the 120 kWh pack. It also plans to incorporate 350kw DC fast charging, two-way charging, and home solar integration for customers.

The Aehra SUV itself has a 118-inch wheelbase, but the roof is low and the overhang is short. The startup previously said the smart packaging meant an NBA star would feel comfortable in the cabin, which is also full of screens.

Aehra’s emphasis on battery repair is another statement that stands out from most other electric vehicle manufacturers. Today’s EV drivers have to deal with possible battery repair hurdles inflated insurance premiumsin spite of the right to amend the law can help with this.

General Motors discussed battery flexibility and easily replaceable as a feature of its Ultium hardware. But solutions like cell technology to chassis And portable for packing may only make battery repair more difficult.
