England midfielder Jude Bellingham available to face Switzerland on Saturday UEFA European Championship quarter-finals after being suspended for one match and fined €30,000 by UEFA for indecent conduct during a dramatic last-16 win over Slovakia.
Bellingham, 21, celebrated his stunning 95th-minute bicycle kick, which sent the game into extra time in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday, by kissing his hand and appearing to grab his groin.
Bellingham later described the incident as “an act of inside banter towards some close friends who were present at the match” but UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body (CEDB) concluded its investigation on Friday by declaring Real Madrid The star had “violated basic rules of decent behavior”.
The CEDB said in a statement that it had decided to “fine the English Football Association (FA) player Jude Bellingham €30,000 and suspend him for a total of one UEFA match which would otherwise qualify him for a breach of the fundamental rules of fair conduct.
“The said suspension shall not be effected immediately but shall be subject to a probationary period of one year, calculated from the date of issuance of the present decision.”
Sources told ESPN the FA has no plans to appeal the decision.
The ruling also included separate fines for the Football Association totalling €11,000 for what the CEDB described as “crowd disturbances” and “fireworks”.
Bellingham will now face a disciplinary hearing as UEFA remain on the lookout for any similar action in the next 12 months.
Anything deemed a repeat in Dusseldorf would see him banned from a potential semi-final against both teams. Türkiye or Netherlands.
