Eubank Jr prepared to drop to 158lbs to clash with Brook
Chris Eubank Jr says he’ll drop to 158lbs and no less to fight Kell Brook this year.
The pair have been rumored to have a fight since last year and speculation increased after Eubank Jr was in Manchester to watch Brook defeat old nemesis Amir Khan last month.
One issue that surrounds a potential clash between the two is the weight of the match. Brook, the former IBF welterweight champion, wants Eubank Jr to drop to 155lbs but middleweight Brighton insists that won’t happen. And the 32-year-old is ready to leave if his request is not granted.
Speaking to Talksport Eubank Jr said, “He walks heavier than me. He fought Gennady Golovkin at 160 and entered the ring at 168 at night.
“When I was fighting at 160, the maximum I put in was 5 pounds. He will be bigger than me tonight if we fight 160.
“People are talking about me going down to 155, it’s not going to happen. I’ve never fought at that weight before and I don’t have that much weight to take off.
“He will comfortably earn 160. Can I lose a few pounds if I have to? Yes, but at most one or two.
“155 is not happening, 158 is in a push. If that cannot be agreed then we have much bigger fish to fry and it is not the end of the world. “
