EU Green Test – Does it work?

By Andy May

The GWPF just released a new report, written by John Constable describes the economic impact of their green policies, and it’s not pretty. Some highlights:

  • EU electricity prices for households are 80% higher than in the rest of the G20, and EU industrial prices are 30% higher than G20, natural gas prices for households are twice as high as G20.

  • High prices can be the cause of reduced electricity consumption. This is not good because the quality of life is tight correlate to energy consumption. Energy consumption is also a major determinant of health and environmental quality.

  • The cost of carbon dioxide mitigation is many times higher than even high-end estimates of the social cost of carbon, suggesting that the economic harm of EU carbon mitigation policies is higher than the possible costs (or expected, if you will) of global warming.

  • Employment in the solar and wind industries in Europe has been declining since 2008, subsidies are unlikely to create more jobs in Europe, as equipment is now purchased from China. The only area of renewable job growth is in biofuels, which is essentially cutting down trees and producing ethanol from food. Biofuels are also responsible for a lot of Europe Toxic air pollution.

Has the EU learned anything from its failure and the suffering it has caused its people? No, instead, they seem to be doubling down on their bad policies.

In the words of John Constable:

“A watcher, perhaps from the United States, might note that government enthusiasm for green policies continues, and if anything, has increased in the thirty years since 1990. They may argue, quite reasonably, that the EU will only go ahead this way if the policies are working. But this assumption would be mistaken. Governments persist in their folly not only because they are too close to their own failures to get them in the spotlight, but sometimes because persistence is the most effective means of being able to. conceal failure. No one is so blind that they cannot see. ”

John Constant, 2022

Constable reports that EU policies have produced the longest decline in energy consumption in modern times. This could cause social unrest, he said. The report is well worth reading.
