Errol SPence explains why he feels his boxer Frank Martin would beat Gervonta Davis

Talking to Combat Center Former welterweight titlist Errol Spence has made it clear that he feels his fighter, Frank Martin, will shock the world by defeating Gervonta “Tank” Davis on June 15 in Las Vegas. “I saw him raising his hand,” Spence said of the undefeated Martin. “I feel like he is the most accomplished (and) talented fighter Tank has ever fought.” Even though Davis has beaten famous fighters like Leo Santa Cruz and Ryan Garcia, Spence feels the Baltimore star will face a new type of opponent in Martin.
“He (Davis) couldn’t get through those real rounds,” Spence continued, “it was like he was going into the seventh, eighth round and hoping to get knocked out.” It’s not that Spence doesn’t feel like Davis won’t give one hundred percent. “Tanks are about to fight,” Spence admitted. “He’s a great fighter, but I feel like Franks is definitely going to knock it out…he (Garcia’s) is going to see the speed, he’s going to see the power, he’s going to see the power that Frank bring.” Of course, Davis brings his own speed, strength and power. After all, there’s a reason he’s famous, something both Martin and Spence are acutely aware of.
However, stranger things than Martin’s victory this weekend have happened (some of us still remember watching the Douglas-Tyson fight with wide eyes when it happened live). That being said, Davis has earned his ferocious reputation. His style is sharp and disciplined, his headspace sharp when he works inside the ring. Davis doesn’t lose patience when things get tough. He believes in his own abilities to a remarkable degree. The guy also knows how to turn off the lights. However, Frank Martin certainly wasn’t considered a high-level threat to Davis when the clock rang out. If Martin wins, it will be a shocker for the sport.
Indeed, if Martin scores the goal, no one – except perhaps Martin himself – will be happier than Spence. The guy is in need of some good news, as his last fight, a true super fight against Terence Crawford, handed Spence a crushing defeat – the first of his highly regarded career and was decorated by this man. There’s no doubt that Martin plans to please his promoter come June 15. And after the Davis-Martin fight is over? Spence said he is ready to return to the ring. One might assume Martin would be there to cheer his man on.
