Easy to solve – Increase by that?

Roger Caiazza

Just when I thought that climate-related madness couldn’t make anything nicer, even worse. The American Meteorological Society (AMS) Council approved a special statement on July 8, 2022 by the West Virginia Supreme Court decision versus the EPA taking climate change hysteria to a whole new level.

Special Statement of the American Meteorological Association

AMS is deeply concerned about the United States’ failure to respond promptly to climate change and the dangers it poses to the nation and all life. This inadequacy was illustrated most recently – but not only – through the West Virginia Supreme Court decision v. EPA.

Climate change is a highly solvable problem, and the existing solutions present enormous opportunities for social development and climate protection. We welcome the many people around the country who are working hard to tackle climate change, including many government officials, politicians, members of the public, scientists and members of the public. business community.

Everyone should know that:

1. Climate change is especially dangerous for humanity and all life

  • Climate is a fundamental life support system for humans and all life.
  • The global climate changes that are happening now are larger and faster than any that humanity has endured since our society’s transition to agriculture.
  • The physical features of the planet, the biological systems and resources they provide, and the social institutions we have created are all heavily dependent on climate, which is central to happiness. human and sensitive to climate change.

2. People are changing the climate

  • Much independent scientific evidence confirms that humans are responsible.
  • The warming effect of our greenhouse gas emissions is demonstrated through laboratory experiments, evidence from past changes in Earth’s climate, and the role of greenhouse gases in climate change. other planet.
  • The patterns of climate change that are occurring today match the characteristics we would expect from greenhouse gas emissions and not other potential agents of change: the sun, volcanoes, aerosols , land use change or natural variation.

3. The scientific conclusions summarized here are the result of decades of intensive research and testing

  • The scientific evidence has been comprehensively evaluated by independent scientific organizations and independent experts review all evidence.
  • Accuracy is at the heart of credibility for scientific organizations such as the National Academy of Sciences, the American Meteorological Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, all of which assessed climate science.
  • No conflicting reviews from credible scientific organizations exist.

4. Solutions are readily available and highly promising – a good reason to be optimistic.

  • Greenhouse gas emissions are an economically harmful market failure. Those who emit pollution into the atmosphere pass on the damage caused by the climate to everyone, including future generations. Making emitters pay all the costs of using our atmosphere would help to remedy this problem and thus improve economic well-being.
  • Regulatory approaches can accelerate adoption of best practices, require technologies of broad benefit, promote public interest, and promote equity and equity.
  • As a result, reducing greenhouse gas emissions can enhance climate security, national security, the well-being of biological systems, and economic vitality.
  • Existing and emerging technologies such as rooftop solar, electric vehicles and electric heat pumps can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve the air quality in our homes and cities, while providing superior products or services.
  • Building our resilience to climate impacts (adaptation) makes communities stronger and better able to cope with both existing vulnerabilities and threats. emerging threat.

Humans are changing the climate and it poses serious risks to humanity. There are many well-understood feedback options, many of which will be of broad benefit. We will need to work together to harness human ingenuity to tackle climate change. Therein lies a greater opportunity for humanity. If we can solve our climate problem, we will have a new template for the range of challenges and opportunities we face at this time in the 21st century.

Discussion

Tony Heller Writing at Real Climate Science presented the statement “Climate change is extremely dangerous for humanity and all life”. He points out that natural disasters are decreasing and life expectancy has doubled since fossil fuel use became widespread globally. Willis Elsenbach’s post Where is the climate emergency? is a more comprehensive rebuttal to this claim.

I ceased to be a member of the AMS in 2012 when the organization ranked advocacy above science. The arguments in favor of the statement “Humans are changing the climate” seem to be points of discussion for the public. Near the end of the Trump administration a series of short, easy-to-understand brochures supports the general view that there is no climate crisis or climate emergency, and points to widespread misinformation being promoted by alarmists through prepared media . The following brochures address the other side of these arguments:

The section “Scientific conclusions summarized here are the result of decades of in-depth research and testing” is a direct appeal to the administration. Recently Global warming golden goose The money-trading summary article shows that the scientific institutions we’re supposed to trust aren’t necessarily only interested in scientific truth and enlightenment.

The next section, “Available and Highly Promising Solutions” shows a surprising lack of self-discipline. The point of the previous section is that you should only trust the “experts”. Why in the world would anyone expect the American Meteorological Association to have expertise in energy solutions. Vague, contentless arguments are a joke to anyone who has spent time looking at the enormous technological difficulties involved in running today’s society using wind and sun. continuously and pervasively or even following today’s energy problems. My Followed Sites Feed has articles about copper shortage will eliminate net zero by 2050the number of solar panels necessary for the transition, Germany’s net-zero transition is running out of energyand the current heatwave in Texas is straining the power supply to the point that Electric vehicle owners are required to collect tolls outside of peak hours. All of these issues invalidate the claim that the climate threat is “easily solvable”.

There was a time when I was proud to be a member of the American Meteorological Association. This policy statement is shameful, I don’t want to admit that I’m affiliated with a scientific organization that might publish something far from the truth.
