New ruins is a powerful APM solution that uses user-set thresholds and correlated data to identify and find errors or problems instead of an AI-based approach like Dynatrace.
New Relic only offers their service as a SaaS option and no on-site capabilities are offered. New Relic offers an extensive list of plug-ins, which is one of its strongest points, along with a strong user community and knowledge base. Users also like a very intuitive dashboard that requires very little customization after installation to deliver important data through easy-to-read charts.

For this reason, many users prefer the New Relic control panel because it works well right after installation. Dynatrace requires some effort to set it up, but once it’s done, it can provide a more customized dataset for your needs.

Dynatrace offers a very easy installation process that provides an automatic discovery engine. After starting from the dashboard, the tool quickly uncovers all the assets in your entire technology and generates a topology map showing the entire network. This ease of setup is one of the key features that Dynatrace users enjoy the most.
The new Relic, while still easy to set up, doesn’t offer automatic discovery and installation options, so a little more initial setup is required. While this initial setup may require additional steps, it is relatively easy and most non-developers should be able to handle the task if they understand the New Relic environment being installed. .
Error and error detection
Of course, these APM tools will also detect bottlenecks, errors, and problems. But they do it in very different ways and give their users a much different experience.
Dynatrace relies heavily on their AI system called Davis, which integrates their three modules, One Agent, Smartscape, and PurePath. This suite fully monitors the entire technology stack and sets a dynamic baseline for performance, then detects deviations from that baseline. The AI system also provides root cause options when problems are detected. They can be automatically sent to the respective teams to help respond and resolve issues much faster.
The new Relic doesn’t use any AI-style monitoring and instead uses the industry standard Apdex score. The user sets a baseline performance target, and then New Relic detects deviations from the user-set baseline. Overall, it’s a simpler system that can be more useful in some settings, but doesn’t offer the same detail or dynamic monitoring as DynaTrace.
Dynatrace or New Relic is better choice?
Both of these APM tools offer great options for those who need to keep an eye on their technology and maximize efficiency. However, each has its strengths, making it easier for you to choose one over the other based on your needs.
For those who need highly detailed and deep data to solve complex performance problems and bottlenecks in large environments, Dynatrace is the clear winner. It also works well when sending multiple teams to deal with issues that may cover several areas. This combined with an on-premises or hybrid option and high security, makes it ideal for larger and complex businesses.
On the other hand, New Relic, which has a slightly more involved setting, is generally easier of the two. Just a SaaS option, it works best for dedicated cloud-based environments. The quick to understand dashboard and extensive plugins make it quick to get up and running, even for non-developers. So while it’s less granular in some areas, ease of use is New Relic’s main strength.
Both of these solutions are capable APM tools, and depending on the size and complexity of your environment, each will perform well when chosen for the right task.
