Ryan said: “She’s really grown beautifully and she belongs in these fillings. “She was always a lovely horse. We bought her 19-year-old dam for $40,000 (at the November Livestock Share Sale at Keeneland in 2018) to make sure she had a home. well and she has repaid us many times she has two ponies for us that sold for $425,000 and $200,000 and is a beautiful, sweet, kind mare who is always the happiest when she had a pony by her side, she died at the age of 22.
Ryan continued: “Shahama had some problems like a craving and we had to pull her out of (Keeneland) September Sales. “We then and there decided to put her in training and see how she developed over the winter. I asked Eddie Woods in February (2021) how he felt she was traveling. and what she looked like and he said there was nothing wrong with her and she was a dirty talent so we made a quick decision to get her into OBS and the rest is calendar history. Love that dirty way.”
Transferred from Nass to Pletcher in mid-March to finalize her preparations, Shahama quickly and quietly adapted, which impressed with the 3-time Kentucky Oaks championship condition. She’s had five winds — three at Palm Beach Downs Training Center and two at Churchill Downs—With her last four, all in five feathers.

“Honestly, she’s pretty straightforward,” says Pletcher. “She has dirt track experience in Dubai and comes from a 2-year-old Ocala in coaching sales with American ancestry, so she has a really good background. i found her, just got to know her and help her feel comfortable in our daily routine.she has adapted seamlessly and is a professional with manners very sweet.
“We didn’t know what was going to happen until we bandaged her up,” Pletcher continued. “She’s definitely trained very competitively and has been with some of our other top characters. Humberto Zamora was with her in the morning, but Flavien Prat, who will be riding her in the Oaks, was on board for her previous couple and he seemed to like her very much.
“In some of her replays she climbs up a bit from the kickback if she’s really far back but doesn’t mind it hitting her chest when if she’s in the vanguard, that’s why the score a tie on deck 13 might not be much of a disadvantage for her or the others.”
Prat, who looks for his first win for the Oaks on Friday and rides his favorite Derby in the morning Zandon on Saturday, was impressed. He will have to navigate from the aforementioned 13 hole in a 14 hole course.
Prat said: “I think she did everything very well and smoothly. “She’s adapted to the track really well and is a great dyke. It’s a big question mark what she beat in Dubai, but to win 4v4 is never easy. It’s easy and she’s made everything pretty much right for me so far.
“For the 13th post, it all depends on how she dances. I might have to be a bit off beat, regardless, but if she dances well we can use her a little bit to get the taste. If not, I can give myself hope again and inside. I’m happy with the way she’s training and I think she’ll have a nice run.”
