Discord has “no current plans to ship” a cryptocurrency integration for the popular chat platform. This follows a tweet from Discord founder and CEO Jason Citron, who previously sparked significant backlash by suggesting such an integration is in the works.
On November 8, Citron replied to a Twitter user with a screenshot display MetaMask and Connect Wallet integrated in Discord. Both of those services provide ways of connecting to cryptocurrency wallets or so-called decentralized applications.
The tweet was met with an almost immediate backlash on Twitter, with 4.6k replies and 6.7k quoted tweets at the time of writing. Many of those who responded said they immediately canceled their Nitro subscription; Nitro is Discord’s premium service that costs $10 a month. The next day, Citron call this feature “pre-release”.
Fast-forward two more days and apparently the plans have changed:
