Devin Haney lost part of his recent game earnings as a result of being punished for violent shoving before the game.
At the Nevada Sports Commission’s monthly meeting on Tuesday in Las Vegas, Haney was fined $25,000, plus $326 in legal fees, for touching an opponent. Vasiliy Lomachenko in a head-to-head confrontation on May 19 the day before their match.
“At the pre-match ceremonial weigh-in, he engaged in conduct that demonstrated disdain for unarmed combat, unauthorized physical contact with his opponent, and by disobeying specific instructions from a representative of the committee not to do so,” said Deputy Attorney General Joel Bekker. “Such conduct reflects a discredit to unarmed combat and constitutes foul or unsportsmanlike conduct that is detrimental and related to the competition.”

The committee withheld $400,000 in Haney’s wallet after the fight as they considered what his punishment should be. Bekker said the remaining $375,000 will be paid to the boxer through the promotion “at the earliest opportunity.”
