Ever since the arrival of Devin Haney in 2014, the aspiring former celebrity has adored being a part of the biggest fights possible. Although it may have taken Haney a little longer than he wanted, the 23-year-old finally got his wish.

On June 5, in the face of what is expected to be a merciless booing crowd, Haney will attempt to cut short the world championship of unified lightweight champion, George Kambosos Jr.

For most of their virtual presses, Haney and Kambosos Jr. ripped each other apart. Despite the back and forth stages, the current 135-pound WBC belt holder knows exactly Kambosos Jr. represent something. Having fought several former champions such as Yuriokis Gamboa and Jorge Linares, Haney is well aware that both fighters have weathered their golden years. However, in the case of Kambosos Jr., the 28-year-old Australian-born man appeared to be misled in the midst of his prime.

“I think George is a great fighter,” Haney said. “I have been asking for top boxers for a while. I finally got one of them in the prime, the biggest win of their careers. I am so happy about that “.

Of course, Kambosos Jr. scored what was said to be the defeat of 2021. This past November, Kambosos Jr defiantly stormed into the backyard and, later, the unified champion, Teofimo Lopez. Despite his poor form, Kambosos Jr hit the right opportunity, scoring an early knock the night before delivering a decisive victory in the near-term.

In his match against Lopez, Kambosos Jr delivered a continuous hit, displayed an impressive chin, and displayed his underrated boxing skills.

Admittedly, Haney is extremely skeptical with the end result as he believes Lopez will win. Though he was ultimately proven wrong, Haney didn’t want to consider the win over Kambosos Jr. is a fantasy.

On June 5, not only will Kambosos Jr receive Haney’s undivided attention but the 23-year-old is quietly wishing to nullify all of the fusion champion’s offensive attributes.

“The things that he does best, I’ll take away from him and make it an easy night.”
