New British middleweight champion Denzel Bentley is aiming for the world stage at 160lbs.
‘2 Sharp’ is a two-time Lonsdale belt holder after defeating Linus Udofia last Friday in a highly entertaining back-and-forth battle.
Londoner 27 years old, 15 years oldorder with the WBO keen to bolster its rankings and will be the observer to watch Saturday’s interim belt war between Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and Danny Dignum.
“Dignum is a good fighter, and he has a good chance if he believes in himself,” Bentley (16-1-1, 13 KOs) told Queensberry’s Dev Sahni.
“Zhanibek has good strength and is quite polished. Can he beat it and whether Danny can do it, we’ll find out later this week. While Danny and I are both great, I would love to win that fight and it will make for a great fight.
“I’ve been thinking about fighting Zhanibek lately and I really enjoyed that fight. I’d like to stand a chance against him, but we’ll have to see the outcome of this next fight.
“I watched Zhanibek and I saw a few things. By the way, he’s very good, but I just think I can beat him.
“We don’t know how good he is because he fought with people he was going to beat. You still don’t know how good I am and so far you’ve only seen me maybe 60%. “
Another clash is on the horizon with another Queensberry middleweight but Bentley says it will only make sense if a substantial reward goes to the winner.
“I very much welcome a challenge like Hamzah Sheeraz. It would be better for all parties, including supporters and fighters, if we were to fight for, at least, one remover.
“I’m sure he would welcome that fight, too. I’m open to it but for now, I have to understand everything. If we can fight in a knockout with the winner fighting for a world title, I think that makes perfect sense. ”
