There is something different about Demetrius Andrade.
The WBO middleweight belt holder made a surprise appearance discussing his upcoming bout against competitor Jason Quigley. Never known for his punching prowess, Andrade told all who would listen that he would score an incredible goal. However, Quigley just smiled. After two fairly quick rounds, Andrade had completely wiped the smile off his face.
When the opening bell rang to start their game at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire, Andrade patiently sat back. However, Quigley held out his left hand as if he were using it as a measuring stick. The Irishman then moved to the sides, waiting for the best moment to let go. That moment, of course, never came.
With Andrade continuing to apply pressure, he had a picture-perfect backhand that left Quigley on wobbly legs. The WBO belt holder quickly followed it with a series of punches into the ropes. Quigley immediately dropped onto the rope and began counting his standing eight.
Although he would eventually get up again, Andrade managed to end the performance. In the end, he was forced to wait as time ticked past the clock.
Early in the second half, Quigley appeared to spread his legs below him. He bounces up and down with his toes and moves well around the ring. Not wanting to let the momentum of his first round slip through his fingers, Andrade immediately took offense again.
In a case of deja vu, Quigley hits the deck again. While he tried to get up again, Andrade refused to let him off the hook. The current owner forced Quigley to submit to the ropes. As the evening wore on, Quigley found herself staring at the ceiling lamp.
While he tried to rip himself out of the deck, referee Arthur Mercante Jr dismissed their entry before further damage could be done.
Although Andrade was pleased with his win, the 33-year-old showed no interest in dissecting his performance. Instead, he focused his efforts on naming the top remaining names in the middleweight class.
“I want to go there with the best. I’m 31-0, WBO champion, what should I do next? I do not understand. The fans need to claim these matches. ”
