Daughter recalls final moments when mother was killed in July 4 shooting

Katie, 64, was one of seven people who died after Robert Crimo III22 years old, was shot after shooting into a crowd at a holiday event near Chicago. More than thirty people were injured.
Before the massacre began, Katie happily waved to the parade participants. Cassie told NBC News’ Lester Holt“Every float that passed, she waved at them.”
When the gunman opened fire, 22-year-old Cassie initially thought the sound was firecrackers across the street. “Then I looked up and saw the guy who shot the kids,” she recalls. “I told her it was a shooter and she had to run. So I started running with her and we were together.”
Cassie continued, “He shot her in the chest and she fell, and I knew she was dead, so I just told her I loved her, but I couldn’t stop. He still shoot everyone next to me.”
