Dating ‘red flags,’ according to user on Tinder, Hinge


If you’ve been scrolling through dating apps lately, you’ve probably noticed that your potential partners’ biographies are flooded with red flag emoji – this year it to be one of the most frequently used emojis in Tinder bios, according to the app’s data.

Some red signs are quite specific to a person (think: “don’t love dogs!”) but others are universal.

And all of them can get in the way of your efforts to build a lasting partnership – something many singles express their desire this year – before it even begins.

In 2022, 50% of singles said they would be happier in the past year if they were in a relationship. In 2021, 35% have a similar response.

Here are four red flags that could cost you a potential relationship, according to the dating app’s data.

Drunk on the first date

Three-in-four single don’t want to drink on the first dateaccording to Hinge’s data.

Of those surveyed, 45% said they prefer sober dates because they prioritize their mental health, and 55% said it helps them get to know their partner better.

What should you do instead?

Well, 17% of data feeders on the app want to meet for coffee. About 11% want to see a show or go to a museum and 14% want to go for a walk.

According to Hinge users, people who are “too engrossed” in Instagram or Snapchat will see them as self-absorbed.

That’s why 74% said they don’t want to date someone who regularly uses social networking apps.

When dating, it’s best to keep your phone face down.

Don’t know about politics or social issues

According to Tinder data, understanding social and political issues is a huge plus for data providers.

A whopping 75% of singles are looking for someone who respects or cares about social issues.

And nearly half, 47%, of singles say finding out who they’re dating is a non-voter. “deal breaker.”

This does not mean that your views have to be completely aligned with those of your potential partner. Only 24% of users said they would like to date someone who thinks like them, and 46% said they would date someone with different political views.
