If you like games where everyone gets stuck somewhere mysterious in a dead game, here’s a new one for you: The end of the world club. Released on PC today following the Apple Arcade and Switch versions, it’s made by a team that includes two veterans of the killer game: the director of the Zero Escape series and the writer of Danganronpa. . The film is about a group of students who are in an undersea amusement park and are forced by a clown to do with these cheerful mascots, who have one bulging eye and are prone to violence?
World’s End Club is about the Go-Getters Club, a group of weird kids from all over Japan whose summer vacation somehow ends up in an abandoned undersea amusement park where an owl clown forces them into a “Game of Destiny”. And from this mundane starting point, it gets weird. Sound grim? In Japan, it was even more intense, released under the name Death March Club.
It looks to open up with simple side-scrolling background, light action, light confusing, and lots of chat and cutscenes as the group goes on a long journey. Reviews have been pretty average for other games, but the plot seems to have pleased some people who enjoy other games from the big names in the works.
It is made by Too Kyo Games, a studio founded by former Spike Chunsoft employees. They have some big names, including Danganronpa writer Kazutaka Kodaka (creative director of World’s End Club) and Zero Escape director Kotaro Uchikoshi (who wrote and directed here). Lots of killer game experience.
