Creating Photographers, Not Consumers: Canon’s Creator Lab and Student Advantage Program

Canon Canada just launched Canon Creator Lab as part of what I call its new community building mission. A lot of companies these days talk about building community, about creating a space to encourage growth. Most of it seems to be the best lip service. Here, however, we’re seeing Canon Canada invest time and money in a free hub designed to help photographers become better while truly connecting with one another. As a Canadian, I am proud that Canon’s operations in Canada are looking forward to leading the global photography community into the field.

Canon Canada’s Creators Lab focuses on a few key areas.

Creator Lab will provide exclusive event access. For example, photographers can sign up for live workshops like this one last week Sailing in the summer: Toronto. The Kajama Shipyard, a 165-foot vessel, is designed to connect members of Toronto’s creative community across the water at dusk. Canon Canada has built privacy into the ship during the sunset cruise, where participants have the opportunity to interact with other creators, access a wide range of equipment and have the option of working with resources. stylish features on board.

Creator Lab subscribers will get early access to new camera and lens test drives.

Creator Lab is also an access point for new Canon Canada products Laboratory frame (coming soon), a high end printing and framing shop, but the prices are pretty decent.

Creator Lab will also be the place to find Canon Pro Services and a revision Student advantage program for middle school and post-secondary students. The Student Advantage plan is currently free and includes:

  • Discounts on select cameras, lenses and printers
  • 20% discount on services and repairs
  • Quick service and repair
  • Shipping support for out-of-warranty repairs
  • Free Membership

Creator Lab is also sharing two dozen short-form workshops hosted by Canon Ambassadors and other celebrities from the photography world, such as:

There is also a behind the series of lenses Share stories of Canon Canada Ambassadors, like Natasha Gershonand some of their tips for finding success.

What do you think? From my seat, it looks like Canon Canada is leading the way in coming up with ways to connect with its products in a way that creates better photographers, not just better consumers.
