Cowboys’ Dak Prescott defends Amari Cooper’s decision to get a COVID vaccine: ‘It’s my brother, we’ll support him’

Cowboys Attack Gets a Taste of Life Without Amari Cooper in 19-9 Week 11 lost to the chiefs. It is not beautiful.

Dallas’ passing game is scattered like Cooper missed the game after a positive COVID-19 test. Dak Prescott went ahead for just 216 yards while throwing two interceptions. His wide receiver caught only 13 105-yard passes during the match, and output waned after CeeDee Lamb exit the game with a concussion.

Cooper’s presence could certainly help the Cowboys. However, the recipient – who had not been vaccinated – was excluded from Week 11 and Week 12 because of the positive test result.

A reporter asked Prescott after the game how Cooper’s absence – “in part because of his decision,” in the reporter’s words – hurt the Cowboys. Prescott chose to defend his teammates.

“I mean, it’s unfortunate without him,” Prescott told reporters, USA TODAY Sports. “But by ‘the decision he’s made,’ I mean I’m (being) vaccinated, I can go out and take two games off. So let’s not try to knock the guy down or put him down for a personal decision. ”

The reporter pointed out that the rules for returning vaccinated players to play are less stringent than those faced by unvaccinated players. However, Prescott explained that if he tested positive as a vaccinated player, he would likely miss at least two games, just like Cooper.

Prescott said: “I would love to (will). “You give me the number of people who have been vaccinated again or have not been vaccinated during that time and tested.”

Unvaccinated players, like Cooper, are automatically deactivated for at least 10 days under NFL’s current COVID protocols. That’s why he was dropped from the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game.

Meanwhile, vaccinated players are eligible to return after two negative COVID tests that occurred at least 24 hours apart. A recent example of this is Ben Roethlisberger, who was able to play for the Steelers in Week 11 despite testing positive for COVID the Saturday before Week 10. He has been out of action for about eight days.

So while a vaccinated player may be at risk of missing many games, it will be easier for them to return to their pitch.

Regardless, Prescott wants to make it clear that he and the Cowboys support Cooper’s decision.

“It’s my teammate, it’s my brother, we’ll support him,” Prescott said, “It was his decision, as I said at training camp when you guys asked me the question. this question. So it’s unfortunate that we don’t have him but I know he will come back and benefit us at the end of the season. ”

Prescott also sees Cooper’s absence as an “opportunity” for him to develop chemistry with other members of his receptive corps.

“It’s just an opportunity for others to step up,” Prescott said. “I mean, it’s challenging when you’re missing a guy like Amari, a very active and dynamic player. But we have to be able to go out and win without him. “

Dalton Schultz led the team with six catches and 53 yards ahead of the captains while Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson combined for 17 goals. They’re all expected to star in Thanksgiving with Cooper certainly absent and Lamb likely absent as well.
