Keeneland announced on January 6 that Coolmore will sponsor the Turf Mile (G1T), to be held on October 8. The Coolmore Turf Mile, a race for kids ages 3 and up, will provide the funds. 1 million dollars in 2022.
The Coolmore Turf Mile this fall will mark a major milestone as the 25th Coolmore-sponsored Keeneland stake run. This activity previously sponsored Lexington (G3) from 1998-2015 and Jenny Wiley (G1T) from 2016-2021.
Shadwell has been a longtime sponsor of the Turf Mile, continuing through 2020. The race has no sponsors in 2021 when it is known as the Keeneland Turf Mile.
“Coolmore has been a long and loyal supporter of Keeneland from sales to circuit, and we appreciate their strong commitment to racing,” said Keeneland vice president of racing at Gatewood Bell. said. “The Turf Mile is one of the most prestigious racetracks in the world, and we are delighted to have an international partner as prestigious as Coolmore as its sponsor.”
Owned by John Magnier, Coolmore is one of the largest purebred operations in the world, with farms in Ireland, the US and Australia. Ashford Stud is home to great riders like the Triple Crown winners American pharoah and Evenly , plus high performance stallions Uncle Mo , Mendelssohn , Munnings , and Realistic jokes .
The Coolmore Turf Mile marks its 37th activity this fall. Its notable winners include Horse of the Year twice Wise Dan (2012, 2014) and three-time champion grass horse Gio Ponti (2010-11).
