Comprehensive Europe study finds periods of warmer climates don’t lead to more conflict, more wars – Is it up?

Analysis of 1000 years of wars in Europe shows that more wars and conflicts are not related to warm climates.

But that assumption doesn’t fit very well according to the overall results of a new study by Carleton et al.: “Song Not Ice and Fire: Extreme Temperatures Have No Effect on Violent Conflicts Between European Societies in 2nd Millennium AD“.
The authors looked at the past 1000 years of bloody conflict across Europe and compared how well they were matched by extreme climates between 1005 and 1980 AD.

The authors compared the well-known annual historical conflict record with four published temperature reconstructions in Central and Western Europe.
What did the authors find? Did they find that the warm climate period has led to intense conflicts and so we would be sorry if we continued to drive SUVs with a warming climate?
The results are surprising to the usual apocalypse. Periods of warmer climates do not lead to more conflict and war.
The authors summarize their findings:
Our results indicate that no temperature reconstructions can be used to explain the variation of conflict levels.. Seems to turn to extremes Climatic conditions may be largely unrelated to the conflict-generating process in Europe during the second millennium AD. ”
For many of us, this is of course no surprise. Wars are simply caused by people in power lying and deceiving their people to hate and fight, as it is today.
