Colonial Downs sets records for handles, wallets


Shocked by a record-breaking payout of over $6.5 million on the New Kent County Virginia Derby Day, Colonial Downs has broken all betting marks this racing season, its fourth under Colonial Downs management. Group and ownership of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment

The total handle for the 26-day live race (one card lost due to weather conditions) was $74,940.840 with a daily average of $2,882,340, a 29% increase over the daily handle mark. The 2021 average day is $2,231,765 over that season’s 21-day session. For further comparison, thoroughbred racing nationally grew by just 0.24% for the year. This race encounter marks the all-time high bets in Colonial Downs history.
