Climate Propaganda Award Winners – Interested in That?

Guest comments by Kip Hansen – June 16, 2022

Columbia Press Magazine (CJR) at Columbia University supporting climate advocacy, Including climate right now (CCNow), announced Weird worldbased on “2022” Including climate right now Journalism Award”. Of course, calling it a “journalism award” is oxymoronic – what these people create is the opposite of journalism, which is propaganda at its worst:

propagatedisseminating information — facts, arguments, rumours, half-truths or lies — to influence public opinion. Propagate is more or less systematic attempt to manipulate the beliefs, attitudes, or actions of others by symbols (words, gestures, banners, monuments, music, clothing, badges, hairstyles, designs on coins and stamps, etc.). The deliberate and relative emphasis on manipulation distinguishes propaganda from casual conversation or the free and easy exchange of ideas. [ source: Britannica.com ]

The overall emphasis makes the type of report emphasized by CJR and Including climate right now that’s it more than intentionalit is organized and coordinated, and admit to having the intention to manipulate public opinion, attitudes and actions.

If you are not sure that this is true, just watch CCNow do in the last US National Election:

“Only a few weeks until the US election, Including climate right now and its media partners are shining a light on politics and climate: Why is the 2020 election so important to climate in the United States and around the globe? What are the most important elections for climate? How are young voters changing the conversation? To address these questions and more, CCNow gave a # ClimatePolitics2020 joint news week, which runs from September 21-28. To kick off the week, several partners raised the voices of young people, whose lives will be shaped the most. by the climate crisis. ”

They have widely circulated stories such as:

“As the wildfires in the Western United States have become so much evident, the climate crisis is here and action must be taken now.”

“A second Trump term would be ‘game over’ for climate, top scientist says”

“Kentucky’s climate is suffering. Can the state ignore industry constraints that prevent change? “

“These Races Will Shape What the U.S. Elections Mean for Climate Progress”

“Facebook Vulnerability Allows Climate Destructionists to Spread Misinformation”

These stories, many in foreign (non-US) newspapers, are all intended vote manipulation in the 2020 election.

Now, newspapers and media outlets are allowed, even permitted, to write or broadcast the political opinions and views of their owners – but only on the editorial page or in segments clearly marked as Comments or Opinions or Editing. When they do so on pages or in broadcast segments, presented as “news” – like newspapers – it is a bold and calculated violation of journalistic ethical standards. Even NPR is extremely inaccurate and biased there is a moral code, that is obviously simply omitted when reporting US politics, climate or culture wars.

CCNow there is present ongoing misinformation and misinformation campaigns (of which it is quite proud):

Food and drink: How does climate change affect the food we eat and the water we drink? From June 27 to July 1, CCNow and our partners will delve into this question.

Climate & Democracy: Before Earth Day, CCNow partners explored how the erosion of democratic systems around the world is affecting our ability to tackle the climate crisis.

Climate crime: A series by CCNow and the Guardian investigate Big Oil’s complicity in the climate crisis and examine efforts to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable.

You might think that a couple of passionate activists at Columbia (forever a hotbed of passion) wouldn’t have much of an impact – and you’d be wrong! CCNow broadcast these stories to hundreds of major media outlets in more than 50 countries. See their list of Partners. Look for vicious twists and turns – it’ll show up even in your small local community’s weekly newspaper with the help of CCNowFree story sharing service.

Author’s comment:

The corruption of journalism reminds me of what I’ve read about the worst days yellow press and seen in Pravda-like the press in countries where there is no freedom. It seems that the “free press” in the West is increasingly compromised by the political and cultural views of their owners and journalists who no longer adhere to precise standards of accuracy. accuracy and fairness (if they ever….). Now they are awarded for slander, misinformation, misinformation and cultural correctness.

However, I believe that the future will be better than the past.

Read more, read widely, read critically.

And thanks for reading here.
