Climate Colonists Break Africa’s Water Pipelines, Perpetuating Poverty – Did It Rise For It?

By Vijay Jayaraj

Climate activists’ unfounded opposition to fossil fuels threatens to halt a major pipeline project in East Africa and hamper economic growth in Uganda and Tanzania – home to some poorest people in the world.

Uganda is betting big on its fossil fuel reserves. In February, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and France’s TotalEnergies agreed to invest $10 billion to develop two oil reserves in Uganda. But the landlocked country needs the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project to ship its products to a port in Tanzania.

The 895-mile pipeline from Uganda’s Lake Alberta region to the seaport of Tanga will be the longest electrically heated crude oil pipeline in the world and carry a capacity of 216,000 barrels per day. The project was given the green light for construction upon completion of the Social and Environmental Impact Assessment.

Africa Report speak that the investment will be huge: “(A) about $10 billion will be invested in this sector (oil and gas) before the first oil production in 2025, mainly in pipelines, refineries and infrastructure. The government has conducted a trial run of road construction in the area that will produce oil, in Buliisa and Hoima districts, and an airport is also under construction in the area. The project is expected to create around 10,000 jobs even after the construction phase.

Ugandan Government Great job expectations of citizens during construction: “This will be through direct employment for about 14,000 people by companies, indirect employment for about 45,000 people by contractors, and job creation for about 105,000 people due to use of other services of the oil and gas sector.Of direct employment, 57% are expected to be Ugandans, expected to bring in an estimated annual payment of 48, $5 million for Ugandan employees.”

However, the global war against fossil fuels has now reached Ugandan soil and extremists are determined to stop this economically significant, life-saving project.

StopEACOP’s Vanessa Nakate against the pipeline in a recent column in New York Times, saying that the project will bring poverty and devastation to the people of Africa. She also mentioned extreme weather with the implication that the pipeline would worsen the climate.

During a visit to the extremely wealthy Vatican, Vanessa said: “Clearly there is no future in the fossil fuel industry…. We know the impact on our food. We know the impact on our water. We know the impacts on our livelihoods……the climate crisis has been affecting so many people not only in Uganda, but also in the African continent. ”

But her reasons for opposing this pipeline are scientifically incorrect and logically absurd.

She points to a forecast by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicting drought in Africa. But IPCC, by private admissionhas shown that extreme weather events have no significant correlation with an increase in the average global temperature. Not available yet any significant increase in the frequency of extremes tornadodrought, amount of rainand Fire. Even as droughts and cyclones increase, better socioeconomic conditions will help people adapt more effectively.

Contrary to Vanessa’s hype, the world is experiencing near-optimal temperatures for global food production and the advancement of human society, just as it was 1,000 years ago during the Medieval Warm Period and 2,000 years ago. years ago during the Roman Warm Period. Globally, we now have Better access to clean water, Better access to nutritious foodhuman with Higher incomeand very speed up in the life expectancy rate. How are we in crisis if the climate is supporting the improvement of every metric used to measure the quality of human life?

It is shocking that Vanessa ignores the plight of millions of her people living in persistent poverty and in need of reliable, affordable sources of energy like coal, oil and gas. It would be less shocking if we understood the DNA of climate extremists, who deny the reality of energy needs and promote unreliable, crude and expensive wind turbines that even those who do not have access to. Economic giants such as Germany and the United States are also hesitant to fully adopt.

Climate extremists like Vanessa are driving continued poverty in Africa – the continent with the lowest levels of electrification and the highest poverty rates in the world. Vanessa claims that the pipeline is another colonial project that enslaves Africans. But, it was Vanessa and her friend who were colonists and would be slave owners.
