Renewable energy will meet more than 70% of China’s additional electricity needs in the next three years when Coal’s role in powering the world’s second-largest economy continued to decline, according to the latest forecast of the International Energy Agency.
Additional demand refers to any increase from today’s levels.
Even as state subsidies are phased out, the rapid growth of onshore wind and solar farm installations is expected to continue, with combined generating capacity. Their combined capacity will grow 75% to 930 gigawatts in 2024 from 530GW in 2020, according to forecasts.

I called BS. I have no doubt Xi Jinping’s administration told the IEA that this was the plan, but Xi Jinping nearly crashed China’s economy late last year when he tried to turn off coal, track from Xi’s catastrophic gas conversion directive, caused millions of people to suffer during the winter of 2018 without indoor heating. So I can’t help but feel that getting in touch with Mr. Xi’s reality is a bit difficult, when it comes to energy planning.
