Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison steel armor package, 35-inch wheels

If you are the type person looking at a Chevvy Colorado and want more, the ZR2 has long been the first choice. It enhances the rugged Colorado look and makes it more ready for the terrain. But if that still If that wasn’t enough for you, the all-new Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison could be the truck of your dreams.

The new truck has been produced in cooperation with American expedition vehicle and comes with many tweaks and changes, all added with the sole purpose of improving terrain performance.

Changes to enhance the off-road capabilities of the ZR2 Bison include modifications to the universal spool valve damper that you find in the standard ZR2, now equipped to handle the truck’s extra 300 pounds of weight. But the highlight of the Bison is the front and rear hydraulic stops. Supplied by Multimatic, Chevrolet has badged these “Bounce Control Dampers” and they have been installed to help the truck handle harsher terrain.

Bison also comes with electric lock differential at the front and rear and increased ride height giving the truck a ground clearance of 12.2 inches, or 1.5 inches than the standard ZR2. The changes have also improved the Colorado’s approach angle, now 38.2 degrees, as well as its departure and breakout angles: 26 degrees and 26.9 degrees respectively.

All of these upgrades are fitted to a truck that comes with Chevrolet’s 2.7-liter inline-four at the front, producing 310 hp – up from 237 hp in the standard Colorado. That engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Along with those mechanical updates, Chevvy and AEV have also fitted the Colorado with some terrible tires: a very good set of 35-inch chunky rubbers. to tackle mud and all kinds of terrain. To accommodate these tyres, the truck’s front axle has actually been shifted 3.1 inches forward. The ZR2 Bison is also equipped with steel skids and a seesaw guard to keep the underside of your truck in top condition.

Because this is still a Colorado at its heart, ZR2 Bison is also equipped with all the usual comforts of Chevrolet inside. We’re talking about the 11.3-inch screen that handles your infotainment, which is also compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s also Chevy’s Safety Assist System as standard, which offers features like emergency braking and lane-keeping, and adaptive cruise control can be considered an option.

Chevrolet is expected to put the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison 2024 into production later this year, with Car & Driver report that the truck will “break the $60K barrier.”
