Chery Unbounded Pro launched in China – QQ Wujie Pro, 2-door mini EV from RM57k, range up to 408 km

Chery Unbounded Pro aka Chery QQ Wujie Pro Officially launched in China. The four-seat two-door EV is priced from 89,900 to 112,900 yuan (RM56,808 to RM71,342), with five trim levels and two battery/range options.

Looks familiar? See this somewhere before? Lexus LC style “tears” and BMW i3 style tailgate aside, Chery now has a boxy two-door EV in the showrooms – the Ice cream QQin the format of the pioneer Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.

But the Unbounded is a bigger car. At 3,402 mm long and 1,680 mm wide, it is 422 mm longer and 184 mm wider than the deliciously named EV, and its 2,160 mm wheelbase is also 200 mm longer. Open the two doors – via the flat door handles – and you’ll find two more seats in the back for a total of four. Unbounded rolls on 16-inch wheels, 4 inches larger than Ice Cream.

The Unbounded also has a larger battery than the tiny Ice Cream. There are two choices here, a 28.86 kWh unit powering the 74 hp/150 Nm motor for a range of 301 km and a 40,296 kWh battery pack powering the engine version. 94 hp. The second motor has 120 Nm of torque, which is oddly 30 Nm less than the 74 hp – presumably for range purposes.

Acceleration is claimed to be 4.8 seconds (under 6 seconds with the 74 hp engine), but note that speed is from 0 to 50 km/h, not 100 km/h. While the Wujie Pro can hit the century mark, its top speed is only 125 km/h (120 km/h with the 74 hp version).

DC Quick Charge recharges the battery from 30% to 80% charge in 30 minutes. The range figures are most likely NEDC’s, which means more realistic WLTP numbers would be about 20% lower.

The interior of this EV is as modern and sparse as you’d expect in an EV, with a horizontal 12.9-inch screen that dominates the view. In front of the steering wheel is a 7-inch digital dashboard. Those and vents are the only elements on the dashboard. Orange/red accents on the dashboard and steering wheel are welcome to break the monotony.

Other notable features are power-adjustable leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, a full ADAS suite, and a third-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 6155 chip. The latter powers a “540-degree” camera system that combines a conventional 360-degree setup with a 180-degree forward-facing camera for users to “see through” a car’s bonnet. The vehicle is connected to Chery’s New Energy App, where users can unlock the vehicle, open the windows, search for the vehicle and turn on the cooling/heating mode via a smartphone.

What do you think of this (relatively) inexpensive small two-door electrical box, Ice cream QQ and Wuling mini tram? Do they appeal to Malaysians looking for an escape in the city? By the way, Chery is back in Malaysia and will recommend a series Tiggo Pro SUV and stand out omoda 5. Click the link to see the models being reviewed for our market.
