The controversy continues over a contract with the US Postal Service that could make just 10% of the next-generation delivery trucks the government renews for decades run entirely on electricity. Thursday, a coalition of states and environmental groups filed a lawsuit against USPS alleging that the appropriate cost and environmental analyzes were not actually performed before the contract was signed. Gasoline replacement trucks are expected to be less fuel-efficient than their 1990s predecessors when new.
A project between Volkswagen and oil giant BP will lead to the installation up to 8,000 charging stations across Europe by 2024—Focus on urban charging and includes a “Flexpole” design that requires no high-voltage hardware to provide DC fast charging.
And the first generation version of Kia Niro EV continues to be a special zero-emissions taxi in its home market of South Korea, the automaker confirmed this week. The much-loved EV will be reduced to seats and door trim for interior space, with the entire package tweaked for use in taxis, ride-hailing services or corporate fleets. According to Kia, this is the first in a series of electric vehicles “built for purpose”.
