Caton’s Healey pays tribute to early four-pot Austin-Healeys

The Healey by Caton is the next car to be carefully refurbished, old and new to join the global six-figure garage. This started with a first car from BN1-series sponsor Austin-Healey 100/4, a four-cylinder version of the British roadster created by Donald Healey, which had a top speed of 100 miles a hour. Starting with the engine, Caton worked with Healey’s restoration specialists, JME Healeys, upgrading the four-cylinder from 2.7-liter to 3.0-liter, while also installing components such as the crankshaft and drive. upgraded axles, high compression pistons, racing camshafts and larger twin SU H8 carburetors. That compact flame blew through the side exhaust. The original engine made 90 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque, the new engine made 185 hp and 195 lb-ft, allowing for top speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The chassis is fitted with new front and rear baffles and additional spacers to make the most of power. For the driver, go out to a three-speed manual transmission with a column-mounted shifter that Healey transfers to the transmission tunnel. Paired with a modern five-speed manual transmission is housed in a slimmer tunnel to create more cockpit space, connected to a more powerful driveshaft that sends power to the rear wheels. The suspension is a mix of new and old, double wishbone and adjustable coil springs at the front, wishbone and leaf springs at the rear, both equipped with a flower-joint roll bar. custom pink. 15-inch, 72-spoke Borrani wheels in aluminum with black imitation paint Michelin tire and hide disc brake around. No electronic support feature.

Wrapped around all this, before McLaren Special Operations designer Darryl Scriven has made small changes and downplays the busyness to emphasize form. The bolder grille contains fewer individual dividers but is larger. Certain plates are rolled on an English wheel as was done in Donald Healey’s day, without any of the bead lines found on the original Austin-Healeys. The silhouette is particularly clean thanks to the absence of a front and rear bumper, the front apron is slightly extended to cover all internals, and Brand the release trunk is removed; The loading compartment is opened with a button on the key. The Austin-Healey branding remains the same, the only point is that there is no external Caton on the large air vents, and the finisher is added to the recalculated front fender.

This is a pure roadster, without the top, the windshield is located slightly higher to reduce noise in the cabin. The emphasis on purity continues with the lack of any infotainment and heater. The dashboard is wrapped in odorless shrink-optimized leather, and the seats in the Bridge of Weir are upholstered in leather for a scent of leather. Between the slimmer powertrain tunnel, AP Racing pedal box and revised seats with reinforced frames, Caton says the six-legged bikes will fit more easily here than the classic predecessor.

Caton plans to produce 25 of its Healey models, starting production in the second quarter of this year after debuting at Salon Prive in New York. London from 21-23 April. We’ll then promise more merchandise centered around British craftsmanship, some more outside of the automotive world, all of which “focus on improving the good sensibility and development of beloved products for the modern age.”
